Scout and Parents,
- Weather has not been our friend lately forcing us to cancel "Get Air" and our Snow Cave Camping Trip in Turnaigan. Our top priority is our scout's safety and we appreciate your understanding. I spoke with Mr. Puterbaugh today and both of those events may be re-scheduled in the near future. I frankly want snow so we can enjoy our winter like many of our scouting families are accustomed to doing. 1. Scout Meeting at 7:00 pm 28 February 2. This Sunday 28 February we will be participating in Troop 219 Scout Sunday with our Chartered Organization Joy Lutheran Church. We have had a long and very positive association with Joy Lutheran Church. - The attached invitation on behalf of Pastor Eldred comes to us from the Joy Lutheran Church Council President. To summarize Troop 219's intent: We understand our troop is multi-denominational and in no way do we want to interrupt your individual family's worship plans. However, this is an opportunity for our scouts to join JLC for worship @ 9:30 and a brunch to follow. Even if you and your family is unable to join in the worship, consider joining in fellowship at brunch (approximately 10:45). We are showing our support as scouts by wearing our uniform and sharing with the JLC parishioners. The committee discussed having each patrol contribute a breakfast meal; for those who may be up to it) one that is cooked in a cast iron pot (must be cooked prior to church service/brunch)...nice Scout touch but not required. We told the church that we would have a minimum of 5 dishes to share. Typically 40-50 people attend the winter brunches. This does not include our scouts and family members. Please respond to this email if you and or your scout plan to attend our Scout Sunday Celebration this Sunday and let me know what you intend to bring to the brunch. Uniform: A "crisp" class A Uniform (Please ensure you wear your uniform as if you were meeting a board of review). Please contact me directly with questions as I am the designated POC for this event. We have not participated with JLC in Scout Sunday and are excited to have an opportunity to do so this year. Thanks for all you do! Summer Camp signup is upon us. We are heading to Denali High Adventure Scout Base 11-16 July. So far we have 24 Scouts on the list. Please review the camp list and let me know this week if you would like to join us. Cost is $365 for scouts and $180 for adults. We will need a minimum of four leaders to signup for camp. Deadline to signup is next Sunday 28 February. We are asking for $150 deposit for all scouts. We will setup a payment schedule for the balance due. So for NOW we need a commitment to go to camp...talk to myself or Juliann Nevells if initial deposit can not be made at this time. Troop scholarships are also available on a case-by-case basis. Please see Juliann Nevells Additionally, GAC has scholarships available thru the Great Alaska Council. Remember Scout Accounts are king...... See GAC website for more info. About Denali High Adventure Scout Base (DHASB) DHASB is Alaska's newest camp that offers a rustic Scouting experience. Denali is located in the shadow of Mt. Mckinley (Denali). North America's tallest peak. We offer Backpacking, River, and cycling adventures in addition to traditional summer camp programs. DHASB is at the cutting edge of BSA programing... literally. The National Council of the Boy Scouts of America is exploring pistols as a program element for Boy Scout aged youth. In the past pistols had only been approved for youth registered as Venturing Scouts. Great Alaska Council has been approved as a council for this program and will be offering pistol instruction and shooting as a part of the program at Denali. In addition to that we will be offering a first year camper program, troop based cooking, and experiences that you won't be able to find at our other camps such as blacksmithing, blackpowder shotgun, and mountain man programs. YIS, Steve Puterbaugh SM, Troop 219 ER, AK 907-351-8826 All - I'm cancelling today's Get Air event. I've received numerous reports and checked with APD. The road conditions are hazardous and expected to degrade further.
Mr. Lundgren Dear Troop 219: We will be heading to Get Air! trampoline park this Sunday, February 21, meeting at Joy Lutheran Church at 3:00 sharp and returning there at about 7:00. Cost is $20 for two hours of jumping. Bring cash to JLC, along with a bottle of water if you want one. Plan to eat before you arrive. Also ... Sometime between now and Sunday, have a parent fill out a WAIVER on the Get Air! website, print off a copy and bring it to JLC. Also, fill out the attached T219 PERMISSION SLIP and bring it along. You must have these forms to participate. So far we have 20 Scouts jumping. If you want to come but did not sign up at Sunday's meeting, let us know by this Thursday. Parents, please email us if you can drive. Yours in Scouting, Mr. and Mrs. Lundgren
