Dear Crew 616-Q2: Well, the countdown begins. We are less than a month away from Philmont, one of the most memorable events you'll experience in your Scouting career. Planning and preparation are starting to pick up and the adult leaders will need your help. This is your trip and I want to ensure that we are all working as a team to make this a great event. It is important that I know you are receiving my emails. Please respond with, "got it"...your questions are welcome, too. We have scheduled a "Prep, Pack and Learn" session this coming Thursday evening (May, 21st @ 6:30pm - 8:30pm) with Mr. Game McGimsey (T219 ASM). Mr. McGimsey was on the 2012 GAC Philmont Contingent trek and will discuss the gear list, tips on packing your backpack and a slide show on what to expect at Philmont. This will be a good time to ask questions about your gear and discuss what troop gear we'll be taking. The meeting will either be at Joy Lutheran Church or the Lion's Club. I will sent out a note Tuesday confirming the venue. We'll also discuss the trip plan for the Russian Lakes Campout. We'll need to break down the food into the sub-crews (we'll be cooking in groups of six) and we'll need to make sure everyone knows who is packing what food items. Mr. Hobbs has purchased the food and the cost is $30/person (food and gas). Please make your check out to Greg Hobbs. We'll be collecting money on Thursday. Attached is the Russian Lakes trip plan, checklist and menu (via Mr. Diefenderfer). This is required reading and their will be a quiz after the meeting. Below are key dates: May 29th - 31th: Russian Lakes Campout / Meet at Lion's Club (1:00pm) June 6th: Crew check-in (forms/gear check) June 13th: Leave for Philmont June 28th: Return to Alaska Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions.
